For this match, Kings XI Punjab changed their opening partnership. Mandeep Singh came out to partner KL Rahul instead of Mayank Agarwal. These two batsmen started the game well taking their team to 24 runs in the first 4 overs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad got their first wicket in the 5th over which was bowled by Sandeep Sharma. Mandeep Singh who was on 17 went for the big shot but he failed to middle it and Rashid Khan took the catch. Chris Gayle was the next man in.
The 6th over was bowled by Jason Holder. Chris Gayle did not spare his fellow countryman: hitting him for two consecutive boundaries. After 7 overs, Kings XI were 56/1. In the 9th over, Jason Holder was brought back into the attack. This time he got even with his countryman. He bowled a wide delivery. Chris Gayle who was batting on 20, went for the big shot but was caught at long off.
The next over was bowled by Rashid Khan whose first ball went through the defences of KL Rahul. This was a huge wicket for Kings XI Punjab as KL Rahu has been in exceptional form this IPL.
Glenn Maxwell and Nicolas Pooran were at the crease now for Punjab. Their job now was to steady the Punjab boat. Sunrisers Hyderabad Innings.
Sunrisers Hyderabad began the chase with Jonny Bairstow and David Warner. These two played extremely well and Sunrisers Hyderabad crossed the 50 run mark in the 5th over. Kings XI got their first wicket in the 6th over which was bowled by Ravi Bishnoi. David Warner went for the sweep shot but missed it and KL Rahul who caught the ball surprisingly went for the review. The review showed that the ball touched something on its way to the wicketkeeper. Most probably it was the glove and David Warner had to go back to the dressing room. Sunrisers were now 56 runs for 1 wicket.

Manish Pandey was the new man in. In the 7th over, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their second wicket which was bowled by Murugan Ashwin. In the second ball of the over, Jonny Bairstow went for the sweep shot but missed it and the ball went on to hit the stumps. Abdul Samad was the next batsmen in. Sunrisers were 61 runs for 2 wickets at the end of this over.
Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their 3rd wicket in the 8th over which was bowled by Mohammad Shami. Abdul Samad went for the big shot but Chris Jordan took a marvellous catch to dismiss him. Vijay Shankar was the new man in. Sunrisers Hyderabad were 67 runs for 3 wickets and now needed 60 runs from 67 balls to win.
Kings XI Punjab bowled brilliant the next few overs. They managed to restrict the Sunrisers Hyderabad to 107 runs in the 17th over. In the last ball of the said over which was bowled by Arshdeep Singh, Vijay Shankar edged the ball to KL Rahul. Priyam Garg was the new man. Sunrisers now needed 17 runs in 13 balls to win.
The 18th over was bowled by Chris Jordan. He took the wickets of Jason Holder and Rashid Khan in the 3rd and 4th ball respectively. Sunrisers needed 15 runs of 7 balls.
The last over of the day was bowled by Arshdeep Singh. He took 3 wickets: Sandeep Sharma and Priyam Garg who were caught out and and Khaleel Ahmad who was run out. Sunrisers Hyderabad were all out for 114 runs.

Kings XI Punjab won the game by 12 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Conclusion
Sunrisers Hyderabad would have been utterly disappointed to lose this game. They restricted Kings XI Punjab to a score which could have been easily chased down but they made a mess of it.
Kings XI Punjab would definitely be proud of their bowling performance. They kept up the pressure on the Sunrisers throughout the game. This bowling performance will boost their confidence.
