Match number 21 of indian premier league 2020 was played on 4/10/2020 between the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders.  The match venue was the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bat first which was a wise decision as due to the pitch conditions, the batsmen needed  to spend some time in the middle before going for the big shots so if the Kolkata Knight riders made a good score and took early wickets, they could put pressure on CSK. Here is how it all unfolded.

Kolkata Knight Riders Innings

Rahul Tripathi has been playing well for KKR this IPL. He continued his good form against CSK hitting quite a few boundaries and sixes during the first few overs.

KKR their first wicket in the 5th over.  Shubman Gill tried to go for the big shot but instead nicked the ball and Dhoni took a brilliant catch. KKR finished their first powerplay with 52  on the board with the loss of 1 wicket.

Nitish Rana replaced him.  KKR kept losing wickets at regular intervals during the middle overs but Rahul Tripathi kept the scoreboard ticking. His wicket finally fell in the 17th over.  KKR were 140/6 when his wicket fell.  He tried to dab the ball but the ball took  a slight nick of his bat and he  was caught by Shane Watson.

Rahul Tripathi played brilliantly. He scored 81 runs in 51 balls. Pat Cummins came to the crease in place of him.  He hit Shardul Thakur for a four and a six in the 18th over.  The last few wickets for KKR feel in quick succession and they finished their innings with 167 runs on the board.

Chennai Super Kings Innings

Now the Chennai Super Kings would have been fairly confident of chasing down the total of 167 with the batting lineup they had.  But the result was not what anyone would have expected.

They started their innings  with Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis.  Du Plessis lost his wicket early but  Shane Watson kept  the scoreboard moving at a brisk pace.

The game was slipping away from KKR.  In 12 overs, CSK reached  98 and lost only 1 wicket.

Next over Kamlesh Nagarkoti took  the wicket of Ambati Rayudu.   In the meantime Sunil Narine was also brought back into the attack.

In the first ball of his second over,  Narine trapped  Watson who went  going for the pull shot. This was a huge wicket as after that the CSK innings lost all momentum as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.  It was a good ploy from KKR to send Narine late into the attack. Chennai Super Kings ended by scoring 157 runs for five wickets.
